THE MATERIALITY OF THE BOOK AND THE COLLECTIVE PRODUCTION OF THE FIRST EDITION OF ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE (1967)

Abstract

This article aims to reflect on the materiality and publication of books in light of their contribution to historiographical studies of culture. To this end, the first edition of the book One Hundred Years of Solitude (1967), written by Gabriel García Márquez and published by Editora Sudamericana, in Buenos Aires, was taken as a source. The novel has a wide critical fortune, however, there are gaps in the investigation into its publication in book format and the graphic elements that compose it. In this sense, the aim is to analyze the presence of such elements in the production of the book in question, as well as to highlight the work of the various subjects who made it possible for García Márquez's typing to become the book published in 1967. Thus, this analysis is qualitative in nature. , through bibliographic and documentary research. Michel Foucault (2009), Roger Chartier (2002 and 2014), Donald Mckenzie (2018) are used as theoretical support.
