Understanding the imaginary about women elaborated and conveyed by National Rock songs is the main objective of this text. Affirming the usefulness of the study of popular music for historical knowledge and contributing, at the same time, to women's studies and academic research on National Rock are secondary intents, but not unimportant. From the perspective of Cultural History, based on the study of representations, 23 songs produced between 1982 and 2012 are examined. In general, the composers defended female freedom and articulated the denouncement of social and symbolic violence against women. The hypothesis is that in the specific scenario of National Rock, women found space and the right to speak, as well as male voices willing to join the chorus of the historic struggle for their recognition, respect and rights.
