Interdisciplinary studies indicate that the dialogue between history and health constitutes one more opportunity in the process of dismantling the control of bodies and subjectivities. Based on historical documentation, the article evokes the Liga Brasileira de Higiene Mental - LBHM (Brazilian League of Mental Hygiene) and evidences the impacts of medical narratives in relation to gender issues, especially femininity. The results point to structural permanences of the historical domination that mental medicine decisively promoted, in this case centered on the idea of woman-wife-mother.
