LA INMORTALIZACIÓN DEL MARISCAL ANTONIO JOSÉ DE SUCRE EN EL ECUADOR REPUBLICANO

Abstract

This document reflects on the creation of the sculptural image of Antonio José de Sucre, which, on the one hand, should fulfill the function of social exemplification, and on the other, it should be an image of national recognition, with an impact on the Ecuadorian patriotic ideology. Therefore, the public sculptural artistic projects on Mariscal Sucre in the cities of Quito, Cuenca and Guayaquil respectively were analyzed. Here the exercise of political power is demonstrated, over artistic manifestations, it also allows us to explain how the appropriation of the character occurred or not in the cities separately, and poses the sculptural work as a conscious effort of local power that shapes the official memory.
