Author Guidelines

Publishing guidelines for História e Cultura Journal

1 - Articles, interviews, book reviews and texts submitted to História e Cultura should be original contributions by postgraduate students, Masters and Ph.Ds, written in Brazilian Portuguese, English, French or Spanish.

2 - Texts must be sent through this webpage or to the email revistahistoriaecultura@franca.unesp.br. Articles to be published in dossiers, if sent through institutional email, must fulfill subject field as follows: ‘DOSSIER TITLE – author SURNAME – Article Title’.

3 - Authorship identification must follow this pattern:  

Master’s degree in History – Ph.D. –Postgraduate Program designation -  University Name designaton, P.O. Box, City, State – Country. Scholarship (if any). Working/researching activities – Institution name. Email: email@email.com.

3.1 In case of contributions destined to dossiers, which does not follow the blind review system, identification must be done at the body text. The author(s) name(s) must come under the article title, right aligned, font size of 12, and the last surname in uppercase followed by an asterisk regarding to a footnote, in which must be included biographical information as shown above.

3.2 In case of articles, book reviews and interviews, such information must be informed exclusively at the specific field for author biography, located at the register page, if submited through the WebPortal; or in the message body, if submited through email. Moreover, authorship data in the file must be deleted, in accordance with available instructions at Ensuring Blind Peer Review.

4 – Articles must length from 15 up to 25 pages, typed in font size of 12, Times New Roman style, 1.5 line spacing and margins according to the following pattern: top and bottom, 2.0 cm; left and right, 3.0 cm. The software must be suitable to Microsoft Word for Windows.

4.1 - Text format must be as follows:

- TITLE in original language followed by TITLE IN OTHER LANGUAGE*, centered, bold, font size of 14;

- ABSTRACT (length from 5 up to 10 lines) and KEYWORDS in original language, ABSTRACT and KEYWORDS IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE*, size font of 11, Times New Roman, single line spacing;

- TEXT with left aligned subheadings without number marks, italics;

- BIBLIOGRAPHY;

- End text notes, size font of 10, Times New Roman.

* If the original language is Brazilian Portuguese, the other language of title, abstract and keywords must be presented in English, French and Spanish. If the original text language is English, French or Spanish, the other version of the title, abstract and keywords must be presented in Brazilian Portuguese.

4.2 - Direct quotation must have up to three lines in the body text, in quotation marks (without italics). Quotations with more than three lines must be highlighted: 4.0 cm indentation to the right, font size of 11 and single line spacing. For direct and indirect quotation it will be used the author-date system (CHIGAGO-ABNT). Example: (SURNAME, year, page X).

4.3 - ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS, if there are any, in footnotes.

5 – Book reviews must have from 4 up to 7 pages length, and follow the same format for articles (check item 4). Before the text, it must be included the reviewed book bibliographic data, in accordance with NBR 6023 (check item 7). This section refers to books published in Brazil in the same year or in the previous year of  the submitted text; or to foreign books published within three years.

6 - Illustration (pictures, charts and graphs), when absolutely necessary, must be presented in the body text, numbered in arabic numerals, accompanied by its subtitle (in accordance with ABNT rules), in its final form. Illustrations, including pictures, preferably should be in colour with 72 dpi minimum resolution.

7 - Explanatory notes, as long as they are indispensable and limited to the lesser possible number, must be at the end of the text. The journal does not publish bibliographies. Bibliography must be present at the end of the work, in alphabetic order, in accordance with NBR 6023 rules:

SURNAME, Name. Title of the chapter of part of the book. In: Title of the book in italics: subtitle. Translation. Issue. City: Publisher, year, page.

SURNAME, Name. Thesis or dissertation title in italics. Year of presentation. Thesis or dissertation. (Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Name of the Course) – University Name, City, publishing year.

SURNAME, Name. Title of Communication. NAME OF THE CONGRESS IN BOLD. Number of the congress, Year of the congress, City of the congress. Annals of... in italics. City of publishing: Host institution, publishing year. pages.

** in case of electronic texts, all URL adresses must be active (ex.: http://franca.unesp.br) deverão estar ativos.

8 - When the author(s) send the publication proposal, s/he automatically agrees with the Copyright Transfer Agreement, attesting also the uniqueness of the text. Publication of articles, reviews and interviews will be conditioned to the approval of at least one peer through the Blind Review system. Once approved, articles, reviews and interviews will be submitted to an editorial planning in order to set a viable date of publishing. Every submission must be previously valued by the Advisory Board – they will check if the text are in accordance with the journal guidelines – and afterwards send to the peers analysis indicated by them. In case of articles sent to dossiers, the expert opinions will be elaborated by the guest organizers.  The journal commits itself to inform  authors about the decision of publishing or not their respective texts.

9 - Data and concepts issued in the texts, as well as the accuracy of references and bibliography are of full responsability of their respective authors. Also, they are responsible by the correction of orthographic mistakes, the formal usage of the language and the abstract, title and key-words translation. We do not provide any kind of remuneration, and the copyrights are necessarely transmitted to the História e Cultura journal.
