Abstract

The present article aims to provide explanations about the work of the social worker in Education Policy, at the Basic Education level, more precisely in public schools of Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education located in the municipality of João Pessoa, the capital of Paraíba. Regarding the methodological characterization, the work is grounded in experiences narrated by social workers stationed in public schools during the post-Covid-19 pandemic period (2022 to 2023), through their professional records, unsystematic observations, as well as the support of bibliographic research, in order to provide theoretical underpinning for the analyses. The study method is centered on historical-dialectical materialism, as it is capable of exploring the contradictions of reality and the essence of phenomena. The experiences examined here point to the challenges posed in the professional daily life of the social worker in times of barbarism, commodification of Education Policy, and the struggle for the implementation of Law 13.935/2019, which establishes the provision of psychology and social work services in public basic education networks.
