ROLE OF THE FAMILY IN THE CARE OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES ABANDONED IN AN ORTHOPEDIC CENTER IN LUANDA

Abstract

This paper deals with the theme of the role of the family in the care of disabled people abandoned in the Viana Regional Orthopedic Rehabilitation Center of Luanda -Angola, in the theme line Families - Violence, of the III National Meeting of Research on Families (III ENPEFA) - Prof. Fr. Mário José Filho - whose theme is Corporate Setbacks and Impacts on Families, organized by Paulista State University - Faculty of Human and Social Sciences - Campus of Franca, in 2019. The study was conducted in 2018. , and sought to know the factors of abandonment of patients with physical disabilities by family members in the hospital, identifying the causes and consequences, as well as pointing out the psycho-emotional state of the victims of this abandonment. The research had as methodology the non - participant observation, the field study, the bibliographic and documentary analysis, using interviews and questionnaires, as data collection instruments. In the end, the research evidence as reasons for the abandonment of patients by their family members the lack of financial conditions to care for the patients, the fear of contracting the same disease, the accusation of witchcraft, the shame of living with a family member with that disease, the lack hospital's follow-up of the Social Worker, the patient's poor history, the absence of government accountability policies in case of abandonment. As consequences resulting from the psycho-emotional state of the patient were pointed out the prolonged stay of the patient in the hospital, family disruption, the difficulties of social inclusion and the low level of education.
